Space

“In the long run, every planetary civilization will be endangered by impacts from space, every surviving civilization is obliged to become space faring - not because of exploratory or romantic zeal, but for the most practical reason imaginable: staying alive... If our long-term survival is at stake, we have a basic responsibility to our species to venture to other worlds"

                                                                                        Carl Sagan

Like any other space object Earth’s future is entirely dependant on cosmic events which are still well beyond the boundaries of our control, knowledge or imagination. The long term survival of life and human civilization on our tiny but beautiful planet can only be assured by developing first-rate space sciences and technology capable of forecasting and later protecting our world from disastrous astronomic and climatic catastrophes, as well as exploring the Universe and connecting with other extraterrestrial life forms. We believe this can only be achieved by a radical change in our thinking, education, industry and daily life, aimed at dispelling the myths and understanding the vital and complex realities of space and astronomy.

Soon after we survive (or solve) the current global warming problems we’ll be faced with another ice age, after we save the many endangered  species tomorrow we may loose nearly all living creatures (incl. humans) in another global catastrophe and mass-extinction. Sadly such events happen regularly and earth’s history has plenty of evidence to make us think what is more important: to make another ballistic missile or stealth bomber armed with  nuclear warheads capable of  exterminating millions of people, or another peaceful space ship or telescope which may unravel one-more secret of the Universe...

Our only enemies today are not other human beings (be they of different looks, opinion or beliefs) but space “pirates” much bigger than the sick imagination of the craziest general on earth (e.g. star wars, satellite defence shields, etc.) – asteroids, comets, radiation, black holes, supernovas...  Although light-years away they can strike any time and without warning, as they have done for millions of years.

Our challenge today is to prove that we’re smarter than the dinosaurs (!) and to ensure that humans won’t become just another fossil in earth’s palaeontology.

We believe that Space (incl. the Moon and all other celestial bodies) shall be reserved for peaceful uses. Our principles are based on the UN Outer Space Treaty (Oct. 1967) which provides the basic framework on international space law:

  • Space shall be used exclusively for peaceful purposes and completely weapons-free
  • Astronauts shall be regarded as the envoys of mankind, and not of any particular state or other organization
  • Space use and exploration shall be carried out for the benefit and in the interests of all countries and shall be the province of all mankind;
  • Space shall be free for use and exploration by all States and not subject to national appropriation by claim of sovereignty, by means of use or occupation, or by any other means
  • States shall be responsible for national space activities whether carried out by governmental or non-governmental activities and be liable for damage and harmful contamination caused by their space objects

Space technology

We are committed to establish viable space launching facilities and take advantage of our favourable geographical position and limited previous experience. We shall provide our full support for both Woomera and Christmas Island proposals, as well as continue lobbying internationally in order to attract interest and investment from other nations. The Asia Pacific Space Center proposal will be far more viable and attractive within the context of our new foreign policy.

Integration and co-operation with established and aspiring space nations and organizations will be the way to develop our own satellite industry and secure our place in this “larger than the earth” industry

Asteroid defence

There is no doubt that today our greed and weaponry present the biggest threat to human civilization and life on Earth.  We sincerely hope that our efforts (not our party alone but hundreds of other peace organizations and billions of intelligent people) can turn the tide and rid the planet of weapons and military madness soon.

Sadly this is not the only security problem mankind has. Our tiny planet is surrounded by millions of other space objects and many of them are much closer than we think. There are more than  1000 so called  near-Earth objects (NEOs) – asteroids and certain comets, which are about a kilometre in diameter or larger and orbit dangerously close to Earth (within 1... 2 lunar distances).

Collision with such object can cause a global catastrophe and is a very real possibility. Earth collided with asteroids many times before and so far nobody can predict when the next impact will occur. If we don’t want to share the fate of the dinosaurs we have to build not another “Star Wars” project but an international system for Planetary Defence. Such system shall monitor all NEO’s and provide early warning if any of them is too close. In a not so distant future we may also be able to develop a reliable defence system capable of deflecting or breaking potentially dangerous asteroids.

We believe that the future Planetary Defence system shall be funded, developed and strictly controlled by the UN.

We are also committed to build a special asteroid-detecting telescope which would vastly improve our NEO’s monitoring capacity over the southern hemisphere (most of the telescopes are located in the northern hemisphere).

Extra-terrestrial intelligence

Many are accustomed to believe that we are the only intelligent creatures of this world. Any theory suggesting that other superior forms of life exist may have disastrous consequences for any political party or other institution. Despite an overwhelming amount of UFO sightings (we can not disqualify all of them as hoaxes) we still refuse to accept the simple fact – we are not alone.

It seems that art and science are far more progressive than politics. They managed to harness the public interest and accomplish huge projects ranging from spacecraft and stations to blockbuster films. Our minds are “loaded” with weird images of aliens and “flying saucers”, but most of us would never let them out of the “science fiction” world.

Contrary to some really bad movies, we can expect that our celestial fellows (this may sound better than aliens) are much more tolerant and peaceful than we are. Their technology and society will be much more advanced than ours, and we can only dream to share some of their knowledge. A single extraterrestrial contact may change the face of our world in such a short time that the word revolution will be grossly inadequate. The historical (in technological terms) difference between them and us may be more than 100, or 1000 years. It can be much bigger than the difference between us and the Neanderthal men. Our Earth may be a “zoo-planet” where aliens come to see their savage predecessors in their natural habitat (but not a colony of some distant Celestial Empire!).

Unlike most previous experiences which were shrouded in mystery and top secrecy, we shall make all presumed extraterrestrial contacts public knowledge and entrust our scientists to bridge the differences between our distant worlds. We shall establish an UFO hotline (within the 000 call) and database aimed at studying this phenomenon and possibly establishing peaceful contacts in the near future.

We shall also guarantee the freedom of every “alien” guest and ensure that contacts are friendly and peaceful.

The moon

The moon is our nearest celestial neighbour and the first stepping stone towards future space exploration and expansion. It has huge scientific and industrial potential which is targeted by many space-nations. There is no doubt that within the next decades man shall really set foot and later establish scientific and industrial presence on the moon. Instead of repeating the bloody colonial drama which claimed millions of lives and countless wars, the moon shall be administered by the UN (or the future world government) for the benefit of all mankind. Sadly this principle isn’t shared by many governments, businesses and organizations treating the moon as their own and already selling real estate!
