War on Terror"War is the business of barbarians" Napoleon
![]() Do terror machines like this one chase and frighten “terrorists” or inspire millions of new ones?
Terrorism
is as old as war, and usually is a result of war, desperation, misery,
oppression and violence. The simple truth is that if you have nothing to live
for, you can easily find many causes to die for. What we call terrorism is
commonly called “resistance” by “the others”, and vice versa. Bin Laden was a
resistance leader when he fought the soviets and was sponsored and trained by
the CIA. Why does he now prefer to kill innocent western civilians? Are the
civilians really innocent and the armed forces guilty by default for all misery
in the world today. Don’t we - the “innocent” civilians, elect our politicians
who send our troops to “defend our interests” and risk their lives in order to
fulfil our government’s appetites? How convenient it is to recruit a bunch of
brave men and exonerate us from any wrongdoing. Why should they be guilty but
not us...?
The
answer is plain military tactic: in every conflict the first target is the
weakest defence. Can “the terrorists” attack the aircraft carriers conveniently
positioned offshore or the bombers flying high above the clouds? No. No one else
can! The only option they have is to attack the people who send them, the ones
who elect this government. Innocent or not, they are a much easier target. Can
we stop this? No! Everything we create for years and millions of
dollars
(even
the mighty Pentagon doesn’t seem to be exempt...) may
be destroyed in a few seconds and just for a few dollars. It takes us decades to
raise children of our own, but It would hardly take more than a month for anyone
to devise a plan capable of killing hundreds of us... Can we put security guards
around everything that may be potential danger or target? Can we “survey”
everyone? Even if this is possible - would there be any freedom left to enjoy or
live for? Is such a police state economically viable? No!
The only option we have is to eliminate the motives for terrorism and
provide democratic, peaceful alternatives. Let’s make life dear and meaningful
for the would be terrorists – then none will opt for terror. We
believe that peace, justice, self-determination and democracy are the only
alternatives to “war on terror”. War will never eradicate war or terror. “War on
terror” will only deepen the roots of hatred and misery, claim more innocent
victims and nurse more brutal “terrorists” and armies. It also creates millions
of refugees knocking on our doors – hungry, desperate, angry... Ultimately “war
on terrorism” will fill the coffers of the military and the so-called “defence
industry”(well camouflaged with patriotic, democratic, or other slogans) which
is the main driving force behind such campaigns. While we give up our butter in
order to pay for all those hi-tech guns and bombs, others are topping up their
obese bank accounts and ever-expanding their shadow empires.
Do
you believe we can fight “terrorists” with joint strike fighter jets, tanks or
submarines costing trillions of dollars? Al-Qaeda and many similar organisations
are nothing else but a product of our aggressive and militaristic
policies... In our
dynamic times many definitions often change and it is becoming increasingly
difficult to update or interpret them in order to make them suitable for the
victors or just for our own understanding. Depending on our viewpoint we may
call any bloodshed revolution, war, resistance or terror, crime, massacre,
rebellion, etc. If it works for us we choose one set of words, if it is against
us – another. If we decide (for a “good” cause - defending our interests!) to
change someone’s “regime” (i.e. – too independent or outspoken government), we send the
air force, navy, army, agents and special forces trained to do the job. They are
our brave men and future heroes, chosen to fulfil our (not always good)
intentions and sacrifice their lives if necessary. How disappointed we are if
the other side does not play by our rules! Why they don’t focus on fighting our
invincible military, but bomb our peaceful buildings using “non-conventional”
technology. It looks like they have no money for proper flying bombers like
ours... Or, may be...
we shouldn’t build or send our bombers? It
is pity we can not tell others what is right or how to fight. If we pretend to be more righteous (or
civilised) we can only give them examples of how to settle differences
without the use of weapons and force. In line with the above principles our future government shall
withdraw from all military blocks and disband all armed forces (see Defence). No Australian soldier will
ever set foot in any country - this shall be our best defence against
terrorism, much more effective than any new war.
